Hey there! My name is Andrea and I am the owner and creator of Bella’s Huggables. I learnt how to knit and crochet at a young age, my grandmother used to show me how to cast on and work the simple stitches. I used to get really into it but then forget all about it for a good few years at a time. In March 2020, my daughter was born and my grandmother made her some really beautiful cardigans, and this made me want to work something for my daughter myself. I dug out the few bits of yarn I had stashed away, and since then I’ve learnt how to knit and crochet jumpers, cardigans, hats, scarves, stuffed toys and other accessories that were requested of me by friends and family.
I originally set out to build this website as a way to make some money through selling the occasional bits and bobs, however this has recently changed somewhat. Once I started gaining more confidence in my work, I decided to open a Facebook and Instagram page to showcase what I was doing, and so I started sharing my makes with other fellow local knitters and crocheters. One day, after sharing an original sweater pattern, a woman asked me to help her make a sweater explaining that she was unable to read patterns due to not being able to fully follow the English instructions. It was at this point that I realised, I had never actually seen any patterns written in my mother tongue, Maltese.
And this is how my original aim of making some money off this website turned into creating a blog with the aim of having both English and Maltese written patterns and tutorials.
